American Public Power Association Webinars

Trees provide many benefits to homeowners, communities and public power utilities. They protect our homes from summer sun and winter winds - leading to energy savings of up to 30%. They also filter stormwater, sequester carbon emissions, improve our health, and beautify our neighborhoods.

Many organizations across the country are including tree distributions projects in their sustainability and energy-efficiency initiatives. Offering trees to customers and employees leads to growth of the urban canopy and demonstrates for homeowners the value of trees as a natural solution to a variety of community issues.

Community Canopy (aka Energy-Saving Trees) is a tree planting partnership administered by the Arbor Day Foundation. Developed for cities and utilities — and applicable for addressing strategic canopy development — the program empowers property owners to plant trees to save on utility costs and generate new ecosystem benefits. Through this partnership, homeowners can use a customized portal to make guided, strategic planting decisions, find educational materials, order a tree, and see their contributions to the urban canopy.
